SJC selected to participate in honored White Coat Ceremony

Saint Joseph's College’s Department of Nursing has been selected by the Arnold P. Gold Foundation (APGF) and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) to receive funding to pilot a White Coat Ceremony.

"We are very excited and honored to be selected to participate in the national pilot White Coat Ceremony," says Dr. Lynette Hamlin, Saint Joseph’s associate dean for nursing. "The Department of Nursing will integrate this groundbreaking initiative with our traditional Nursing Lighting Ceremony, which has been our symbolic event to signify our students' entrance into the field of nursing as they begin their sophomore year." The ceremony will take place on Sunday, September 28, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the College’s campus in Standish

Associate dean for nursing publishes new book on health policy

Dr. Lynette Hamlin, Saint Joseph's associate dean for nursing, has written a new book titled Advanced Practice Nursing: Contexts of Care, published by Jones & Bartlett Learning. The book illustrates and analyzes health policies through a collection of practice-focused case studies. Meant to address current issues in the evolving nursing profession, the book uses actual cases to frame a discussion about the legal and regulatory elements of practicing and proposes solutions to contextual problems.

The Cultural Affairs Committee has announced the fall 2014 Lecture Series.

These events are free to attend and open to the community. The series begin on Friday, September 12, when Maurice Fitzpatrick visits campus for a 3 p.m. screening and discussion on his 2013 documentary, Translations Revisited, which chronicles the creation of Brian Friel's play Translations. Learn more about what will be offered this fall.

Saint Joseph's College's Pearson's Town Farm Awarded Grant

Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation, Maine Sunday Telegram, and SOURCE have announced 12 recipients of the $100,000 Maine Local Foods grants program, and one of the recipients is Saint Joseph's College's Pearson's Town Farm.

The grants program, launched in April 2014, was designed to support nonprofit local food distribution organizations in Maine–including farmer's markets, food pantries, community co-ops, statewide or regional farm-to-school programs, and community or school gardens–with individual grants of up to $15,000.
